About ClickFold Plastics
ClickFold Plastics is an ISO 9001-certified custom plastics fabricator in Charlotte, North Carolina, that designs and builds custom plastic enclosures, housings, panels, brackets, and technical parts in low to medium volumes. We’ve been doing it since 2000.

Yes. ClickFold Plastics has been in business since 2000 and has been an accredited Better Business Bureau member since 2012. For many customers, we’re the only source of a part that’s custom-made for them, often for the entire life of their product, sometimes for decades.
We also maintain close ties with partner fabricators CubiDesign in Germany and Quickplast in Brazil, who use the same process. We collaborate on R&D, and production can be transferred between locations if ever needed.
How It Works
ClickFold Plastics takes most projects from concept to production in under four weeks. Here’s how a typical project runs:
- Week 1 – Send us what you have. A sketch, CAD file, mock-up, or the internal components. We can also reverse engineer existing injection-molded parts or sheet metal housings.
- Week 2 – Review your virtual product. You receive a photorealistic 3D model you can rotate, explode, and measure, including textures and printed graphics.
- Week 3 – Evaluate your first article. Your prototype is made from the same material and with the same processes as your production parts, so it’s ready for real-world testing and demos.
- Week 4 – Fine-tune and start production. In a production kickoff video call, we agree on delivery schedules, inspection criteria, and packaging, all of which can be adjusted later.

Thermo-line bending is the core process behind ClickFold Plastics’ folded enclosures and brackets. A thin heating element and heat shields focus heat along a precise line, so the plastic sheet can be bent to an exact angle without distorting the surrounding material.
Because only the bend line is heated, the material’s texture and even previously printed graphics stay intact. A V-notch cut on the inside of the bend makes positioning accurate and allows sharp inside corners, which is essential for parts that clip onto a mating piece or snap-lock a circuit board in place.
ClickFold Plastics cuts parts from flat plastic sheets on CAD-driven CNC machining centers and then forms them with thermo-line bending. Neither step needs molds, fixtures, or setups. Every program is permanently archived, so we can produce small batches cost-effectively, make inexpensive design changes between runs, and reproduce parts years later exactly as before.
Fabricated plastic from ClickFold is usually the better choice when you need fewer than about 10,000 parts a year, want to avoid the cost and lead time of an injection mold, or expect your design to change. There’s no tooling to pay for or modify, so design revisions don’t mean scrapping a mold, and your first parts can ship in weeks instead of months.

Yes. ClickFold Plastics reverse engineers parts that are no longer manufactured and can often provide a suitable substitute at low cost, even in small quantities. We can also create lower-volume variants of existing parts or accessories.
Many customers also bring us on as a secondary supplier to protect against supply chain disruptions. Because we and all our material suppliers are domestic, we can provide peace of mind for critical plastic parts.
Yes. ClickFold Plastics builds outdoor enclosures that are either sealed with gaskets or designed so that seams aren’t exposed to rain or spray. Overhangs, recesses, and drains protect screens and keypads, and bottom-mounted access panels make servicing easy without compromising weather resistance.
Typical applications include security systems, traffic monitoring, environmental data collection, and transmitters and repeaters. ABS and PC-ABS are the most common materials, and UV-printed markings are designed for outdoor use.
Yes. Most plastics are naturally transparent to radio waves, which is ideal for products with internal antennas, such as routers and radomes. When your product needs protection from electromagnetic interference (EMI), ClickFold Plastics applies a nickel-based conductive coating to the inside of the enclosure. In addition, we can 3D print parts using EMI-rated FDM materials.
Yes. ClickFold Plastics can kit your parts with hardware and accessories and pack them in custom packaging, so they arrive ready for your production line or your customer. Packaging options are set at your production kickoff and can be adjusted anytime.

We work in Autodesk Fusion 360, which is cloud-based, so we can share designs through a simple link instead of emailing files back and forth. Our photorealistic renderings show textures and printed graphics, so you’ll know exactly what your product will look like before you approve the prototype.

A general sense of what you need is enough to get started. You don’t need every detail figured out. Helpful items include rough sketches, photos, drawings, component data sheets, and mock-ups. If you have a material or thickness in mind, let us know. If not, we’ll recommend one.
Yes. ClickFold Plastics quotes design work upfront based on the information you provide. If the scope changes significantly, we’ll talk with you before adjusting the estimate. No surprises. If you need to revise the design later, you only pay for the time the changes take, which is usually nominal.
You do. Every design and CAD file ClickFold Plastics creates for you is your intellectual property, and we never share it with anyone else. You’re free to have your parts made anywhere, although most customers find it easiest to keep design and production together under one roof.
Yes. Every ClickFold project goes through two approval steps. First, you review and approve the 3D CAD model, checking dimensions, cutout and print locations, and assembly. Second, you evaluate the physical prototype, when we fine-tune details and set inspection and shipping instructions. Nothing goes into production until you’re happy. Approve a design or prototype.

ClickFold Plastics offers Net 30 terms to approved accounts and accepts all major credit cards, ACH, wire transfers, checks, and PayPal. All quotes and invoices are in U.S. dollars.
Every ClickFold project gets its own part number when it’s quoted. Just email that number and the quantity you need to [email protected]. Because we keep your files and work instructions on record, reorders are quick and consistent, even years later.
ClickFold Plastics backs up the CAD and CAM files for every project and revision, both on-site and in the cloud, with no time limit. Together with a standardized material inventory we’ve maintained for years, that lets us quickly reproduce parts even if they haven’t been ordered in a long time.
We can also restore earlier revision levels for replacement parts or reruns of an older design. On more than one occasion, we’ve even helped customers recover their own engineering data after a data loss.
ClickFold Plastics ships ground orders to all destinations east of the Mississippi River in 1–3 days. Thanks to our proximity to airports in Charlotte and Columbia, we can also ship late-day orders overnight anywhere in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
We use all major carriers. Shipping charges depend on size, weight, and destination and are added to your invoice. If you’d rather use your own carrier account, just let us know.

Tell us about your environment (indoors or outdoors, heat, chemicals, impact) and we’ll recommend the best material for your needs and budget.
Yes. ClickFold Plastics fabricates enclosures from flame-retardant PC-ABS, a blend of polycarbonate and ABS or FR-ABS. Standard ABS will burn, but polycarbonate is self-extinguishing, so the blend meets Underwriters Laboratories (UL) flammability ratings, including UL94 V-0, which is often required in hospitals and other high-traffic areas. It’s more expensive than ABS, so we typically only recommend it when flame-retardency is a requirement.
ClickFold Plastics sources its plastics from carefully selected, ISO 9001-certified U.S. manufacturers, and all materials comply with U.S. and EU regulations. We can provide MSDS, UL, RoHS, REACH, and mechanical property documentation for your parts on request. Request material information.
With a few exceptions for engineering-grade materials, yes. ClickFold’s plastics fall into the common recycling categories used by municipalities and recycling companies, and we recycle our own plastic scrap.
Yes to both. ClickFold Plastics is happy to source specialty materials or work with customer-supplied sheets. Special-order materials can add lead time and cost, and if a stocked material will do the job, we’ll let you know. Send your request to [email protected] or through our Contact Us form.
No. ClickFold is a fabrication shop, so we don’t sell sheet stock or resin. But we’ll gladly source the material and build the finished part for you. Just send us a Request for Quote.
Graphics & Part Markings
Yes. ClickFold Plastics uses in-house UV printing, which cures the ink instantly with ultraviolet light. The results are durable, scratch-resistant graphics that stand up to cleaning, everyday wear, and outdoor use. It’s ideal for logos, labels, control panel legends, and decorative artwork. We can also UV print on metal and glass and will be happy to offer printing-only for parts you supply.
Because it’s built right into ClickFold’s process. With injection molding or sheet metal, graphics usually have to be added after the part is finished. We UV print directly onto flat plastic sheets before they’re formed, and thermo-line bending keeps those graphics intact.
Printing flat lets us use digital flatbed printing, which delivers photo-quality graphics that silk screening and pad printing can’t match. There are no screens to make and no time-consuming setups, and changing a design is as easy as sending a new file.
For the best results, we recommend vector files: .ai (Adobe Illustrator), .eps, .svg, .pdf with vector artwork, and .dxf or .dwg (AutoCAD).
We also accept raster images (.png, .jpg, .tif, and .psd), although additional artwork preparation may be needed. We can pull artwork from Visio, Word, and PowerPoint files, too, but they usually need some cleanup before printing.
ClickFold Plastics prints photo-quality, high-resolution graphics. A print resolution of 720 dpi is ideal for standard labels and graphics, and 1440 dpi is best for highly cosmetic, customer-facing products with large gradients. Components & Hardware
ClickFold Plastics integrates third-party components during manufacturing, including hinges, handles, fasteners, threaded inserts, standoffs, gaskets, and rubber feet. Your enclosure arrives assembled and ready for final assembly.
We stock heat-set inserts in standard and metric. They’re pressed into the plastic with heat, creating strong, reusable metal threads that hold up to repeated assembly. Need a different type or thread size? Contact us and we’ll find the right fit.
Countersinking is the way to go when you want flat-head screws to sit flush with the surface of your enclosure or part for a clean, finished look.
ClickFold offers piano hinges, lift-off hinges, and adjustable-torque position-control hinges.
We offer four common styles: small, medium, large, and tapered. As a rule of thumb, use small feet for enclosures under 10″ (254 mm), medium feet for enclosures under 15″ (381 mm), and large feet for anything bigger. Tapered feet are best only when there isn’t enough room inside your enclosure for the mounting studs and nuts the other styles require.
Yes. ClickFold Plastics 3D prints custom gaskets from flexible TPUs. We can install them on your enclosures to save you a step, or ship them separately.
Usually, yes. We work with a network of trusted suppliers. Some non-stock items have minimum order quantities or longer lead times, and we’ll let you know upfront. Send your request to [email protected].
CNC Machining
ClickFold Plastics runs several high-speed, high-accuracy CNC machining centers that produce plastic parts to tight tolerances, from single prototypes to large volumes. We work closely with our tooling and material suppliers and keep optimizing our processes and tooling, so your parts stay consistent over the life of your product, which in many cases spans decades.
Lead times depend on part complexity, but ClickFold can often deliver custom CNC-machined plastic parts in as little as 2–3 business days.
Yes. Prototypes and one-off parts are a big part of what we do.
ClickFold’s standard machining tolerance is ±0.005″ (±0.13 mm). Keep in mind that plastics expand and contract with temperature more than metals do, so tolerances that are extremely tight aren’t always necessary or practical. If your part has critical dimensions, call them out on your drawing and we’ll talk through the best approach.
The faces of your part keep the finish of the original plastic sheet, whether glossy, matte, or textured. Machined edges will be matte and smooth. If appearance matters, we offer edge finishing options, including beveling, chamfering, and radiused edges.
Larger inside corner radii let us use larger cutting tools, which cut faster and leave a smoother finish. In short: larger radii = larger tools = faster cuts = lower cost.
3D Printing
Yes. ClickFold Plastics offers 3D printing for prototypes and production parts. It’s a great complement to CNC machining: machining is best for larger parts cut quickly from sheet stock, while 3D printing is ideal for smaller, more intricate parts. Learn more about our 3D printing services.
Yes. 3D printing filament now comes in a wide range of polymers and colors, so ClickFold can match 3D-printed and CNC-machined parts, even their texture. Combining the two gives you the best of both worlds, like 3D-printed internal mounts and standoffs that hold components in place inside a machined enclosure.
Usually within 2–3 business days, and there’s no minimum order.
ClickFold uses fused deposition modeling (FDM), which builds parts by melting plastic filament and depositing it layer by layer.
3D printing is ideal for rapid prototyping, product development, and complex internal components such as brackets, PCB mounts, standoffs, and supports for enclosures. Not sure whether to print or machine your part? Ask us. We’ll recommend the most cost-effective option.
Design Tips: Cutouts, Bends & Ventilation
Very few. As a general rule, if you can design it, we can make it.
There’s no limit to the number of cutouts. As a rule of thumb, keep cutouts at least 1.5 times the material thickness away from each other and from the edges of the part. A panel with a lot of cutouts can lose stiffness, so if your design is packed with openings, contact us and we’ll help you find the right balance.
In thermo-line bending, heat is focused on a narrow line so the surrounding material isn’t distorted. Even so, holes and cutouts placed too close to the bend line can deform. The safe distance depends on the material, its thickness, and the bend. Send us your design and we’ll review it before anything is made.
Vent slots or hole patterns are a simple, effective way to let air flow through your enclosure. We can size and position them to balance airflow with protection against dust, dripping water, and fingers. Tell us about your heat load and environment, and we’ll suggest a layout.
Quality & Inspection
ClickFold Plastics offers first article inspection, periodic sampling, and 100% part inspection. Inspection criteria are agreed on at your production kickoff and documented under our ISO 9001 quality system.

Yes. ClickFold Plastics partners with UNC Charlotte, Central Piedmont Community College, and York Technical College by hiring interns and sponsoring student projects. We’re also proud to support the Infinite Turtles | FTC Team 16461 robotics team.
We support the vocational training programs at Olympic High School and the Aviation Institute of Maintenance, as well as the German School of Charlotte, Rotary International, the Civil Air Patrol, the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections, and the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce. We’re also an active member of the South Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership.
Caring for our community includes caring for our environment. We minimize energy and resource use and recycle our paper, packaging, and plastic scrap.
We focus on education, healthy and active children and youth, innovation and technology, and arts and culture. Support comes as financial sponsorships (amounts vary) or in-kind donations of custom plastic products.
